Background

Friend Community Healthcare System (FCHS) has been serving the city of Friend and the surrounding rural communities since 1933.  We are the last city owned hospital in all of Nebraska therefore our mission of being “high-quality, compassionate healthcare close to home” resonates in all that we do.  Our patients, employees, and community members are each considered family.  At FCHS, we are solely committed to the care and improvement of human life.  As of January 11, 2024, FCHS became Nebraska’s first Rural Emergency Hospital and one of less than thirty throughout the United States.  This new designation disallows our hospital from having inpatient and swing bed services therefore we are strictly focused on our emergency department, outpatient services, and rural health clinic.  As we have no inpatients or swing bed, our nurses are experiencing a one of a kind opportunity to be a part of something new and exciting.  Imagine working a shift without inappropriate nurse to patient ratios and the stressful frenzy of the typical unit in larger facilities.  Our hospital experiences on average, one emergency department visit per day therefore the workload for our nurses is the lightest in the state.  What this means for you is decreased burnout, less consistent stress, and each and every patient gets the one on one one-on-one time with our providers and nurses so many patients and their families long for and cherish.  Boring you might say, we have loads of initiatives headed for our hospital to keep our staff on their feet, alert, and properly trained.  For example, we recently signed an orthopedic and general surgeon, are starting endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures within the next month, are starting a 24/7 infusion center, and so much more.  If you want to be a part of a ground-breaking opportunity, now is the time to join Friend Community Healthcare System.

Job Description

We are looking for a Registered Nurse to join our team.  Our Mission statement is: High quality, compassionate healthcare close to home. We are able to provide this by creating a close-knit team of professionals from multiple disciplines who have a passion for patient care and collaborate to provide the highest quality of care in a rural healthcare setting. We are looking for a motivated nurse that brings with them the compassion for patient care, will add to our culture of engagement, and be a contributing member on our team.  Your geographical location to our hospital does not matter.  If you would like to do multiple shifts back to back, we can provide a sleep room within the hospital at zero cost.  To be successful, the candidate will need to be comfortable in the emergency department setting as all our nurses cover any emergencies during their assigned shift.  However, we always have a provider (MD, PA, or APRN) on site or within the mandated 30-minute timeframe 24-7 as such our nurses are not alone.  Furthermore, we have partnered with Avel eCare and have their services in each bay of our emergency department.  Avel eCare has grown to be a national leader in delivering virtual care.  With the push of a button, an Avel eCare nurse is available to aid in each and every emergency that comes through our hospital’s doors.  Along with nursing, Avel eCare also provides the aid from 19 different provider specialties with anything from general emergency care to cardiac, neurology, and trauma care.  We believe this “eye in the sky” is instrumental in the care of our patients and for the stress relief of our clinical staff.
